About Mobile Film Classroom

The Mobile Film Classroom (MFC) represents a revolutionary way of teaching in the digital age. Today’s youth speak a digital language and are actually excited to learn through digital media. Digital media as a teaching tool is immediate, relevant and current. It can be applied to students’ educational, personal and future professional lives.

The MFC is a complete mobile digital production unit equipped with cameras, microphones, video and audio editing hardware and software, sound recording booth and DVD production equipment. Instructors guide students through the digital media creation process, whether writing, filming, narrating or film and music editing.

Since its inception in early 2006, the Mobile Film Classroom has served 2500 Los Angeles area elementary, middle and high school students. The MFC truly evens the educational playing field. No matter their socio-economic status or what resources are available to students and schools, all now have access to the same state-of-the-art digital media equipment and professional digital media instruction.

Students learn they not only have a voice, but it is worthy of being heard. And as was the goal of film pioneer Mary Pickford in forming United Artists in 1919 with Douglas Fairbanks, Charlie Chaplin and D.W. Griffith, students are empowered to control where and how their voice is heard. Classes also encourage critical thinking and social consciousness, emphasize teamwork and patience, and develop students’ sense of accomplishment and self esteem.
